Privacy

Body Lab can be read without an account. Bookmarks, history, pathway progress and video playback positions stay on your device, and can be exported or deleted from the settings.
Body Lab is designed to be useful without an account. No sign-up is asked of you to read a page, watch a video, open a three-dimensional scene or follow a pathway.
This page describes what the app actually does with your data: what it records, where it records it, what it sends and what it never sends.

No health data

Body Lab collects no health data.
The product records no weight, no body measurements, no meals, no workouts, no symptoms and no medical history. It asks no question about your state of health and offers no form for entering any. That absence is not a setting: those features do not exist in the product.

What is stored, and where

Four categories of information are recorded, all of them exclusively on your device, in the local storage of the app or the browser.
  • Bookmarks: the pages you have marked to find again.
  • Reading history: the last items opened, so you can pick up easily.
  • Pathway progress: the steps completed and the last step opened.
  • Video playback position: where you stopped, so you can resume at the same point.
To those are added display preferences: the language chosen, the accessibility settings and the rendering quality settings.
Key point
Local means local
This information is sent to no server and is tied to no identity. It does not leave the device you are reading on.
The direct consequence: it does not sync between your devices, and it disappears if you uninstall the app or clear your browser data. That is the price of genuinely anonymous reading, and it is a deliberate choice.

Export or delete everything

The app settings offer two direct actions.
  • Export all local data, so you can keep a readable copy of it.
  • Delete all local data: bookmarks, history, progress, playback positions and preferences.
Deletion is complete and immediate. Since nothing has been sent anywhere else, there is no remote copy to request and no erasure delay to wait out.

Analytics

Body Lab measures how the site is used in order to know which pages are read, which scenes fail to load and which content is coming up for review. That measurement follows four rules.
  • 1.
No health data is transmitted, since none is collected.
  • 2.
The identifiers used are pseudonymous: they do not make it possible to identify you.
  • 3.
Analytics can be switched off from the settings, and the product remains fully functional once it is off.
  • 4.
On the web, non-essential trackers are only set after your explicit consent.
The events tracked concern content and technical states: opening a page, loading a scene, progress through a video, starting a pathway, clicking through to Shapier, changing language.

Search and advertising

The text you type into search is sent to nobody. The search index is built when the site is compiled and loaded onto your device: search runs locally, with no request to a remote engine.
Body Lab displays no behavioural advertising and passes no search query to an advertising network. No advertising profile is built from what you read.

What the product does not ask for

Body Lab has no feature requiring access to the camera, the microphone, location, contacts or photos. Those permissions are therefore never requested.
No email address, no phone number and no personal information is needed to use the product, since there is no sign-up, no form, no comments and no user-published content.
When you share a page, the link sent is simply its canonical address, which preserves the language and the path of the page. Sharing goes through your system's share function, and Body Lab knows neither the recipient nor the app used.

Error reports

When a 3D scene, a video or a download fails, a technical report may be sent. Its contents are limited to what serves diagnosis: app version, content version, identifier of the scene concerned, platform, general device model, approximate memory, rendering quality and error code.
An error report never contains the free text of a search, nor any personal health information.

Notifications

Any reminders tied to a pathway are local: they are scheduled by the app on your device and depend on no remote notification server. They stay optional and can be switched off from the settings.
Note
What would change if an account appeared
No sign-in is needed today. If optional syncing between devices is ever offered, it will remain optional, and the local behaviour described here will continue to apply for people who do not create an account.
This page will be updated before any such change, and its last review date lets you check that it is current.
